In today's day and age I still find myself drawn to the old music from times before I was born. It's an interesting thing that with all the technical improvements and with the increased availability of musical instruments, mostly due to drops in prices, the old songs can still heat your heart much more than any new-age composition.
My first contact with rock music has happened quite early, while I was still a small kid. I used to like and listen to a band called Galija (Galley in English), which were very popular at a time in former Yugoslavia. From then onwards my music tastes had slowly started to drift towards more modern variants like heavy metal, power metal, or even black metal.
Yet, at some point it all started to change, and I started turning elsewhere to quench my thirst for music. I've abandoned the fiery solos and energetic riffs of power metal bands, or the growling and heavy beating of the black metal bands, and started to turn towards jazz and progressive rock and metal. I've started listening various jazz classics (Miles Davis, John Coltrane and the like) and bands like Dream Theater.
At some point I started turning back to old rock as well, starting to enjoy the amazing freshness that those bands actually had back in their days, or even in present day and time. From more popular ones like Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Rainbow, and onwards to less-heard about bands like Gentle Giant or Kansas.
Several weeks ago I've also discovered a band called Blackfoot, and found it quite refreshing as well. This band has motivated me into writing this very post.
In the end, sometimes you just have got to relax, and rock-on with the old songs of the ages of rock gone by. And when you start, there's no choice but to keep rockin'!
